silence

You normally won’t hear a lot in silence. There’s not a lot of content to cover, not a lot of words to mix and match; Silence does not have much.

But with you, it seems heavier than any kind of object that exists. Your silence is a bag full of secrets, a bag full of thoughts, and I cannot open it.

You lug it around like it’s nothing; you give it to others for them to hold. For others, you don’t even bother; you entertain them with your words. Sometimes, you take your silence back from the people you gave it to, and just pass it on to another. And another. And another.

Until it goes back to the first person.

I do not understand why you need to make her hold your bag of silence; what did she do wrong this time? Before, you had reason to do this; she used her mouth for the sake of gibberish. Her ears were full of cotton, filtering what she heard and understood. Now, you just throw it around, throw it to her, like it’s not heavy at all. Your actions are becoming stranger; you are slowly becoming a stranger.

I would pry, try to open up your bag of silence, but I am afraid I will encounter things that I do not want to know, that I do not want to hear. I also respect your ownership over this silence, so I am doing my best not to mind it at all.

It just bothers me that you gave it to her. Again. She is close to me. You are close to her. Do you not feel the weight? Do you not notice that I am tired of your non-bickering?

I would rather hear you two use your extensive vocabulary in order to put an end to this nonsense. I would rather that you get the bag of silence, and just release what is inside. Pour out the contents of your luggage, pour it all out.

Please. It’s getting tiring. We have a long walk to go, and you keep adding things inside your bag and making her carry it.

I would like to help you, but I simply cannot. I cannot lighten up your load unless you open it up. Just let everything out. Until there’s nothing inside your bag.

Until your silence bears no more weight.

Then we can be together again.
