Getting ready
Today was our first day of classes. Our last first day of classes as an undergrad.
It hasn’t really sunk in me fully (yet), but the realization that this time next year, I will be someplace else, probably working…
…it’s an exciting and scary thought at the same time.
I’m excited for the experience. After all, I feel like I haven’t explored my city that much, let alone my country; a lot of my batch mates (or even lower batches) have traveled to a lot of countries already, whereas the farthest I’ve gone on plane was in Visayas. Some of my friends are doing freelance work and are already earning enough to get themselves the things they want, whereas I’m… just starting out.
This year—or, well, this semester—will serve as my means of transitioning from being a student all my life, to… being on my own in the real world.
I know I’m not truly alone. After all, I have my family, my friends, my loved ones. I know that they’re there when I need them, and I’m there when they need me. The real world, however, can be very cruel sometimes most of the time.
I’m aware that there will be times where I can’t exactly spend time with my loved ones, wherein I’ll be either too preoccupied over something I’m working on, or I really have no choice because I’m somewhere far away. I know that I have my moments wherein I don’t want to be around people at all, where I would rather spend my time locked in my room than go outside and talk to people. I also know that there will be times when I’ll ask for someone’s time, but they can’t give it to me because of certain reasons, whether they be intentional or not.
I’ve been aware of this reality since last year. I guess I’ve been preparing myself for this day, the day I realize, ”… this is the last time I can make it count. This is the last time I can be around my comfort zone. Better make it worth it.”
Now that I’ve reached this point, I’ll just continue the journey. Take each challenge one at a time.
I know how fast I can get overwhelmed with the amount of things I need to do.
Which is why I am learning how to pace myself properly.
