Turning 30

I’m writing this a few minutes before I go to prep for my weekly Saturday birthday kendo keiko 😆 At the start of the year, as I was fixing stuff on my website and knowing I turn 30 this year, I thought I’d do another rendition of my old blog post of 25 things I learned after I turned 25 but with 5 more items, but… I haven’t really been updating my website for a while. I think… maybe a month or more since my last update?

So instead I’ll just write some thoughts in a few paragraphs and then just keep doing this again whenever I have the chance to. Since I want to see some Table of Contents on this post in particular, I’ll be placing arbitrarily written headings that may not necessarily make sense in an outline sense of the word, but more to just section off certain thoughts or reflection points.

I have 4 minutes until 5pm. I need to go to kendo soon, so I’ll type as fast as possible. Let’s go!

I still wanna eventually (re-)setup my website with a CMS

I learned about TinaCMS and emdash CMS a month ago and I already have some branches in my website repository prepping to set it up for my site. But because the past month I got really busy, in more ways than one—work, extra curriculars, my personal life, and everything in between—I didn’t have enough capacity in me to be in a “figuring out” mode for my website. I only had enough energy to game. So that’s mostly what I’d do instead of tinkering with my website.

I felt bad over it for… maybe a few weeks. I would feel guilty not doing anything with my website after I was so consistent over it for the past quarter! Like… man, I lost my streak. That sucks so much.

But I know it’s my website, it’s my space. I can do whatever I want with it. And I can always just start a new streak again, or just… do something when I want to. I don’t need to do it every week if that’s not sustainable.

So that’s the mindset I’m going for and that’s why I resolved to type this post and have it published as soon as I finish writing. That’s also how I initially approached my past website updates anyway; but I kinda got caught up within the whole “process” of updating it that I ended up getting overwhelmed with my own over-engineering of my shit.

I can start over. I’ll do that soon. When I have the time, I’ll just try again.

Kendo is fun

Whenever I get the question, “Why did you join kendo?” my default response is so I could join my friend Sam since she does kendo, and because I thought it was interesting. Nung una rin kinabahan ako baka mamaya mapapasubo ako sa dami nung bibilhin ko, like the uniform, the armor, the shinai, etc…

Nandun na rin tayo, pero I think it’s fine for me. I can afford it naman, and di naman lagi need bumili ng new thing. Once I have my equipment, I can just keep at it for now. And the practice is with me, I can bring it home. Though technically, di rin ako nakakapractice during the weekdays after work kasi nga, ubos yung energy ko… pero that’s on me na lol

Masaya pa rin ako na I am trying out kendo and doing kendo, na I’m improving week by week. I can see na if I did take it more seriously, I would definitely improve faster or better. But ok na rin yung effort I do for now. The main focus is to have fun and not overwhelm myself like I did with my personal website 😆 so far so good 😁

Gym is also fun and I’m happy I don’t feel overwhelmed with the machines anymore

I’m thankful for my partner for getting me and him to try a local gym, BeFit, and mas friendly yung dating nung gym nila versus my past experiences with Anytime Fitness or other gyms. The machines themselves have diagrams on how to do things, and thankfully rin there are enough exercise apps that do have some demonstrations on how to do certain exercises and intuitive logging of sets, so it feels encouraging to continue on. Nasa sarili ko rin naman ‘to, I do want to improve for kendo and for overall quality of life improvement. So, I’m taking this as a win and also as a reminder for myself na I’m not getting any younger, so I will do my future older self a favor and exercise now para kept pa rin yung mga muscles ko from me being an active and sporty kid growing up all these years.

I want to write more, but I also need to leave na haha

I think i’ll leave it here, but I’m happy I wrote this. 😁

Chi smiling and holding a plate with a slice of chocolate cake with a silver candle. She’s wearing red dice earrings, a black cardigan, a red dress, and her mahjong trinket bracelet. She also has her shades on her head.
Happy 30th birthday to me! Here’s to more happy and content days in life 😄

Update @ May 16, 11:38PM: when I pushed the changes to this earlier before going to keiko, the deployment failed. So I’m trying to fix it again, hopefully I still get to post it within May 16 my time haha
